The Portuguese Government approved the triggering of the clause for the acquisition of further two optional Leonardo AW119 MkII Koalas for the Portuguese Air Force. This light helicopters will be acquired under the same conditions of the contract signed with Leonardo in 27 December 2017 for five airframes. These two additional airframes are part of a larger pack which will include other four light helicopters and six medium/heavy helicopters the Portuguese Government intends to buy for firefighting primary purposes until 2026, within an overall budget of 63.4m EUR.
